Bernie Weston
Bernie Weston uses the centuries old medium of Venetian plaster to create artworks that reintroduce the
everyday sublime to the viewer to observe. His imagery is influenced by the ancient Chinese and Japanese
brushwork known as Sumi-e, which he studied during a Buddhist Temple apprenticeship with contemporary
Chinese Master Yuebin Gong. More important than the physical process of producing his art is Weston's
mental process that includes Chinese meditation and music.
Weston studied painting while earning his degree in mathematics. He began working with Venetian plaster
as an artistic medium after becoming fascinated by its luster and organic beauty, and apprenticed as a
Venetian plaster installer in Los Angeles. He has shown extensively throughout California and has work in
multiple private and corporate collections. Weston currently lives and works as a full-time artist in California.
